Obituary for Lonnie Carl Skelton

Lonnie Carl Skelton, 75, of Elk City, Oklahoma was born on March 8, 1943 in Butler, Oklahoma. He is the son of Carl M. and Lydia V. (Baumgartner) Skelton. He went to walk the streets of gold with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 in Elk City, Oklahoma surrounded by his loving family.
He graduated from Leedey High School and received a bachelor’s degree in Art and Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Lonnie married the love of his life, Mary Kathryn Day (Kathy) on July 8, 1963 in Camargo, Oklahoma. After their marriage, they moved to Irving, Texas where he worked as a technical illustrator at Texas Instruments for over two years. In 1970, they moved back to Elk City and Lonnie began his teaching career as an art teacher for Elk City Schools. Lonnie retired from teaching from Hammon Schools in 1998.
He was a member of the Lions Club, Oklahoma Education Foundation (OEA) and Kiwanis. Lonnie enjoyed drawing and attending all the kids’ sporting events. He spent time restoring vehicles and going to the horse races.
Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 4, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Elk City, Oklahoma. Dr. Russell Duck will officiate, Rev. Danny Ringer will assist. Interment will be at Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the care of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Cherishing his memory are his two sons, Darren Skelton and his wife, Stacie, Derrick Skelton all of Elk City, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Jordan Skelton, Taylor Skelton, Sydney Rogers and husband, Connor, Chipper Skelton all of Elk City, Oklahoma, Chastity Skelton of Altus, Oklahoma; a special cousin, Pat James of Elk City, Oklahoma and a host of other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Kathy Skelton and his parents, Carl and Lydia Skelton.
