Obituary for Martin Stanley Ashley

Martin Stanley Ashley, 93, of Elk City, Oklahoma was born on August 9, 1926 in Canute, Oklahoma to Richard Stanley and Ada O. (Prickett) Ashley. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Elk City Nursing Home in Elk City, Oklahoma surrounded by his loving family
He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He then returned home and married, his best friend and sweetheart, Laura Edith Trent on August 5, 1950 in Sayre, Oklahoma.
Martin enjoyed listening to country western music, working with sheet metal, reading and studying the bible.
He was an active member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Elk City, Oklahoma where he received a certificate for teaching Sunday School for fifty years, but he continued teaching for another ten years.
Martin will be remembered for his sweet spirit and as a loving husband, good father and the best grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all that knew him.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Elk City, Oklahoma. Dr. Russel Duck will officiate, and Rev. Danny Ringer will assist. Interment will be at Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the care of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Cherishing his memory is his loving wife, Edith Ashley of Elk City, Oklahoma; two sons, Johnny Lavern Ashley and his wife, Shelly of Elk City, Oklahoma and Phil Ashley and his wife, Kim of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Amanda Ashley of Elk City, Oklahoma, Hannah Ashley and Hayden Ashley both of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ada Ashley; two brothers, Harvey Ashley and Dale Ashley.
Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church Falls Creek Scholarship Fund in care of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home, P.O. Box 707, Elk City, Oklahoma 73648.
